Women News Links Makes Some Changes

After several years of tending and growing this blog, I decided to take a year off starting November, 2009.  During that year, to my amazement, readers kept coming.  That the articles I had assembled were still useful encouraged me to pick up the blog again -- but with some changes.

First change:  The addition of "Small Voices" cartoons to the mix"Small Voices" is a new body of artwork which combines my love of words with my love of imagery, and for those of you who know me, also provides an outlet for the ironic sense of humor that seems to be part of my DNA.

So "Small Voices" will be dropping in to visit from time to time.  There are literally a million news aggregator blogs and webzines out there.  I think WNL readers deserve something unique along with my selection of what is worth reading.

Second change:  I plan to focus on the subject of violence against women in all its many and varied forms.  This decision is my response to the discovery, as I searched the vastness of the interwebs looking for interesting stuff, that there isn't much out there for women who want to educate themselves about interpersonal or societal violence directed at them.  Resources tend to be clunky, unreadable, confusing or self-serving.  Articles tend to be sob/horror stories, long on hand-wringing and short on usable information.  But there are some excellent resources, and my plan is to collect them under the WNL umbrella.

My definition of "violence against women" has evolved to be rather broad by most people's standards.  By "violence against women" I include not only end-of-the-line episodes or events, but the larger social process of minimizing, ignoring, and distorting women's lives and opportunities that make the deplorable and traditionally violent outcomes just the end of a long line of small events behind the big one.

(Not to worry, I'll continue to post other top quality articles and news as well.)

Third change:  The addition of a new category, top right column, called PAGES.  You can read and print off lists of resources on a variety of topics.  At least one page will be devoted to blog news, in case you are inclined to follow along the blog trail with me.

If you have suggestions, please pass them along, and wish me luck!
